Frequently Asked Questions

My benefit hasn't arrived — what should I do first?
Confirm your expected date with one of our calculators, check whether a weekend or bank holiday moved it to the previous working day, then check your bank account (including pending transactions) before contacting the office that pays your benefit. Our step-by-step guide walks you through it: payment not received.
How do I know which weekday my State Pension is paid?
Your payday depends on the last two digits of your National Insurance number: 00–19 Monday, 20–39 Tuesday, 40–59 Wednesday, 60–79 Thursday, 80–99 Friday — paid every 4 weeks. See the full NINO codes table.
Can I get emergency money while waiting for Universal Credit?
If you already claim Universal Credit and need help with a one-off cost, you may be eligible for a Budgeting Advance (£100 minimum; up to £348 single, £464 couple, £812 with children), usually repaid over 24 months through your UC payments. Check eligibility rules first.

Start with your expected date

Most "missing payment" worries are just a bank-holiday shift — check your date first.
